ABOUT

 About me

Welcome to Briegel-Jones Psychotherapy. My name is Richard, and I am a curious, warm and dedicated therapist committed to guiding individuals on their path to emotional well-being and personal growth.

With almost 10 years experience working in the NHS, I have had the privilege of helping countless individuals overcome various challenges and improve their overall quality of life. I have also worked as a Teaching Fellow and Lecturer on the Surrey University Advanced Practice in Psychological Wellbeing course and have published academic research.

My Approach: I am an BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT). CBT serves as an umbrella term for a collection of therapies that share a common foundation in understanding the connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Under this broad framework, various therapeutic approaches have emerged, each with its own unique approach and techniques. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused-Therapy (CFT)  which I draw upon in my professional work, allowing for flexibility and customisation in therapy.

Through the process of assessment and discussion, we will develop an individualised roadmap of your difficulties (a formulation) and then tailor a suitable treatment plan to manage the difficulties and achieve your goals for therapy.

Throughout the whole process I place a huge importance on the therapeutic relationship, providing a safe and non-judgmental space for self-exploration, reflection, and growth.

Areas of Expertise: I have considerable experience working with depression, anxiety difficulties (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder, Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Phobias), anger, life transitions and adjustments, stress and low self-worth.

Who I work with: I work with individuals aged 17+ and I am currently offering remote therapy via telephone and video sessions.
